I bid $10!

Actually, I misread that "$1.23" at first as "$1.23 million", which got me to read the whole graf with more care, and then I got the joke.

I think it's important to note that most bloggers don't do it for the money. They're motivated by self-expression, finding people with similar interests, building a reputation for themselves, etc. It's a terrible way to make a living.

Varg, what the hell are you talking about? Be specific, dude.

The State of the Blogosphere report is eye-opening, I agree. I was struck by this line:

 >>But as the Blogosphere grows in size and influence, the lines between what is a blog and what is a mainstream media site become less clear. Larger blogs are taking on more characteristics of mainstream sites and mainstream sites are incorporating styles and formats from the Blogosphere. In fact, 95% of the top 100 US newspapers have reporter blogs (see The Bivings Group).

Part of the solution? Or part of the problem?

Also interesting to see how little income people earn from their blogs. Personally, I will have to live to be 110 to see any return on Google Adsense. Then again, I have a niche audience. But income, yeah. In terms of where journaiists go from here, that's the big question. (Sorry, I know there's a typo there, but this page is kind of screwed up on Firefox 3.0 for Mac.)

Hey Paul: Thanks for the shout out. A clarification though: the WSJ didn't launch anything, unless a redesign counts as a launch.

Best,
